If you ever thought living an aggregate of over 20 years of your life in bed, unconscious was unfair, you might be interested in this concept.
Polyphasic sleep schedules, particularly the Uberman Sleep Schedule, created by puredoxyk attempt to change how an individual sleeps in order to gain an advantage. Although I do not have a week to spare on entering this schedule, I will have to remember to do it sometime during a vacation, or when I have saved up enough leave from work to try entering into it.
Basically you nap for 20-30 minutes 6 times a day, so you only use 2-3 hours of sleep every 24 hours. The inventor of this schedule apparently went for 6 months with no ill effects (in fact, they felt healthier and obviously had more time to do stuff). Furthermore, the only reason they stopped was because they got a job.
I will probably do 30 minutes, just to be on the safe side in case I need to bail out of the schedule. I figure I will take my nap during my lunch break at work, because it is supposed to be half an hour anyway.
If I do end up doing this, I will have to find a way to be awake without disturbing my sleeping roomate. I suppose if I enter this schedule at my home or something, I can just wake up gracefully, maybe equip my alarm with headphones. Maybe I could just drag him into it >:D
